“Children are not things to be molded, but are people to be unfolded.”

- Jess Lair

Our Voyagers (Happy Explorers) and Mountaineers (Station House) programs each welcome 24 children, aged 30 months to 5 years. The program focuses on your little voyager’s development as a whole and helps prepare them for entry into the school system. Our educators work together to facilitate fun and educational activities that take place in small, intimate groupings so that your voyager can develop the trust they need to explore the world around them. The ratio within the classroom is one educator for every eight children, where we believe each voyager is full of possibilities and potential to gain knowledge though all areas of development.

Our goals for each Voyagers and Mountaineers as educators within this room are to:

  •  Create an inclusive environment where each explorer feels capable and a member of our family.

  • Foster independence, specifically with following routines, allowing them to tidy up after themselves, use the washroom/washing hands, take off and put-on clothes and shoes.

  • Assist with problem solving and working through conflicts which may arise with other peers including how to express themselves and their feelings as well as reaching a solution.

  • Provide each explorer with the knowledge and skill to leave Happy Explorers for “big school” with the ability to write their name and correctly grip a pencil.

We will endeavour to do this through:

  • Bringing additional natural elements into the classroom;

  •  Introducing more frequent outdoor exploration beyond the outdoor play space;

  •  Implementing small group activities;

  • Learning more about risk-taking and how to implement and encourage healthy risk-taking;

  • Providing a visual schedule for Voyagers to ease emotions surrounding transitions.

It is our intention that every Voyager and Mountaineer learns and grows, which in turn assists each and every Voyager and Mountaineer in their transition to “big school” and in their individual growth and development.
